Episode 3: Josh Beggs

In episode three, I chat to Josh Beggs, Creative Director at one of our country’s oldest magazines, The Australian Women’s Weekly. Josh and I met about 10 years ago working at NW magazine and he left a significant first impression and NOT because of what he was wearing. It was his high standards and intolerance for fools that struck me immediately.  He also had impeccable taste even if he did wear pretty much the same thing every day!

The good part of going to school in Australia is that we have school uniforms so everyone is on an equal playing field. Day to day I still have a uniform but I always aspire to be relaxed and casual.

Fashion can be a little bit of a disguise. I like to fit into my environment but I don’t need to be the star. I want to find out about other people rather than other people finding out about me.

Styling

In accordance with Josh’s preference for tailored, uniform-like clothing and a strong desire for comfort, I’ve kept the styling simple and clean. Nothing says casual uniform better than a well cut white shirt and classic blue jeans. Finishing the look with white sneakers and a baseball cap give Josh the everyday ease he aspires to have.

My job as a creative director isn’t my personal style...the brand is the star. As a creative director, you need to be able to direct the creative side of any brand that you are working on.
